The Dublin Diary: Working Abroad.

July is here which means that I am half way through my study abroad experience – how did that happen?! Although it feels that I have only just arrived in Ireland, I have actually been here long enough to know my way around the city and the company I am working at really well.  I have really enjoyed my internship so far and I am not just saying that because I have been able to work on some cool projects, but I work with some amazing people and I have really enjoyed getting to know more about them!

The company I am working with does everything from media training to speech writing, to public relations, to event planning.  There really is never a dull moment and each client the firm takes on is handled in their own unique way.  What my company does is not always tangible, it may come in the form of landing a client a great feature in the Sunday issue of a newspaper or it may come in the form of making a professional athlete camera ready for a spotlight that they have coming up.  Either way the main input into our services is time.  Time and knowledge are what make up the incredible abilities of my firm to produce amazing content.  The basic offering of services are found by new clients both through our website and most frequently through word of mouth.  Most clients come from existing clients who had incredible reviews, which is actually another main goal of my company which is to make many long-term ambassadors which they do by cultivation strong relationships over time.

When coming in to the office for a session on media training, or presentation training, etc., people must be aware that what they have and may know will likely be fully changed.  First, at the heart of my companies philosophy is confidence.  The first thing you will gain from working with my company is confidence which I see as ann incredible extra that will take everyone incredibly far no matter what they came in to work on that day.  Everyone that comes into the office must have an open mindset and be ready to try out new techniques to improve their skills that are otherwise lacking.  The environment greatly affects the way a lot of these sessions and PR campaigns are run because in order to do the best by our clients, we need to make sure we are up on the daily happenings.  Additionally, every time there is a shift in preference among people, we have to change in order to adapt to that change.  Overall, the dynamic of work that my office does and the long-term ambassadors we build are a huge part of who we are as a firm.  I am so lucky to have such an amazing internship this summer!

Now, to catch you up on my past few days: I was able to go and see The Killers, one of my favorite bands during the week at RDS which was one of the most amazing concerts I have ever been to!  Also, a few friends and I went and tried out hurling, which is one of the huge sports here in Ireland. It was a lot of fun and a great way to get outside in the sun and play an Irish sport firsthand.  On Saturday, a few friends and I headed down to Magheramore Beach which is a place only the locals go.  Literally carved out of a hillside the beach was absolutely gorgeous and made for a fun place to explore while making for an incredibly relaxing day.  The beach was unlike anywhere else I have ever been and I can again say that Ireland has stolen part of my heart.  The next day, Sunday, a few friends and I headed to Dún Laoghaire where we laid out in the sun, swam in the ocean, and ate our way through the small city.  Again, a wonderful and relaxing way to spend Sunday before heading back to work.  It is also probably worth mentioning that this summer is one of the nicest summers Ireland has had in about 40 years!  Everyone I have spoken to from Ireland has loved chatting about how great the sun has been and how lucky I am to be here for some of the most wonderful summer weather.  There has been a heat wave here recently which has made it anywhere from 75 to 80 degrees each day which is practically unread of here so I have been sure to take full advantage and spend as much time outside as I can!
