Day 19: Break From the City

Today, we went on a full day excursion to Cliffs of Moher and Galway. We left very early in the morning but I got more sleep on the bus than any other day on this trip. The first nap, it was very nice waking up to the view of Ireland’s beautiful nature.

The first destination was Cliffs of Moher. When we stepped outside the bus, it was very cold but the air was nothing but fresh. The cliff is very far from the busy city of Dublin and went through so many little towns into a very rural area; however, it was very neat to hear different languages spoken by the tourists. This clearly shows how the tourist industry in Ireland is succeeding because people from all over the world are willing to come out and travel all the way to see a gorgeous nature site. The view was absolutely breathtaking. I’ve traveled all over the place in the United States but I have never experienced the air as crisp or seen grass as green as I have seen today here in Ireland. The walkway was very muddy and I ruined the soles of my shoes; however it was a great sacrifice for the view I got to see.

Then we headed to Galway but on the way, we stopped at Burne, which was a rocky coast  that looked like it was ready to break one of our ankles. But again, the view was magnificent. The sound of the waves crashing into the rocks was so peaceful and something I never get to hear back home in Pittsburgh. After feeling nauseated from the winding roads of the countryside, it was very refreshing to breathe the fresh air and take a quick break at such a beautiful site. After another nap, we finally got to Galway. It was a cute small town filled with restaurants, pubs, and shops. It did not have a vibrant city vibe like Dublin; however, Galway had its unique ambiance that clearly attracted tourists from all over the globe. The buildings were very colorful and the doors, like Dublin buildings, each had different features. We took our ‘takeaways’ from McDonaugh to the park where I was surprised by how clean/clear the bay was. Don’t get me wrong, the rivers of Pittsburgh make the city extraordinarily unique, but they are not clear. Galway with its colorful buildings reflected on the transparent water is a view I will never forget.

On the way back to Griffith College, I, again, took a nice long nap and then enjoyed some vegetables as my afternoon snack with my good friend James. Today was a long day but I really enjoyed our break from the city and school work.
