Vienna, Here I Come!

BellE02Hey!  I am Ellie Bell, a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh.  I am majoring in Finance and Business Information Systems and minoring in  Computer Science.  I am from Albany, New York and have never spent more than a few weeks in Europe.  I will be leaving in 5 days to spend all 14 weeks of my fall semester in Vienna, Austria!

On Pitt’s campus, I am heavily involved in extracurriculars.  I really have enjoyed my time participating with the Student Government Board as a member of the allocations committee.  I also served as the Vice President of Compliance in my business organization, Phi Beta Lambda. These organizations have given me an awesome network of friends on campus.

I’ve had two internships with technology companies during my time at college.  The past two summers I’ve been an enterprise technology intern working with data visualization at the New York Independent System Operator, which is the entity that keeps the power on for the state of New York.  I also interned with Othot, a data analytics company as a data curation intern to help create data-driven predictions and decisions for clients.

When picking my study abroad, I knew I wanted to participate in an exchange program instead of a Pitt program because I wanted to be immersed with international students at a foreign university.  I knew it would be a lot more work figuring out the logistics of my study abroad for an exchange program, but I also knew the experience would be well worth it.  I looked at all of the potential exchange locations and was really excited and impressed with the options Pitt offers.  I knew I was looking for a larger city to live in, which narrowed down my choices and helped me to choose Vienna.  I fell in love with the city’s deep history and culture.  Another reason I decided to study at the Vienna University of Business and Economics was the university’s Information Systems major, which allows me to enroll in classes that will count towards my Information Systems major. The Vienna University of Business and Economics just seemed like the perfect fit for what I was looking for.

While I’m a little nervous to embark on my journey, I’m incredibly excited.  This will be an experience like no other and I’m really looking forward to making the most of it.  I can’t wait to share the next steps of my journey!
