Irish History

I am interested in learning more about the potato famine and the subsequent emigration of the Irish to the United States. I think it is important to look back at this historic event because it parallels the negative feelings some Americans have now about immigrants coming into the country. It is interesting how history tends to repeat itself, so I’m curious to see if eventually some Americans will accept immigrants and appreciate what they can add to our economy, just like they finally did with the Irish. The video explains that Americans outwardly protested the Irish presence in America and that they didn’t appreciate the fact that they took many jobs Americans didn’t want because of the risk and low pay until many years later. I’m wondering if the same thing will eventually happen with current immigrants, which is why I would like to learn more about Irish emigration to the United States in the 18th century.
