Today you are on a day long visit to Glendalough and the City of Kilkenny. This is an excellent opportunity to write a short paragraph on your travels to the Irish countryside with some observations on how Glendalough and Kilkenny differ from your experiences in Ireland in the large city of Dublin. So – for this blog post – concentrate on how your experiences in Glendalough and Kilkenny gave you an experience with a different part of Ireland.
Our day trip to Kilkenny and Glendalough was a nice change of pace from the urban feel in Dublin. Though Dublin does have a rich history and is full of historical buildings and sites, the city of Kilkenny felt more historic and old because of the medieval atmosphere. Seeing the view of Kilkenny from the top of the round tower at St. Canice’s Cathedral was an amazing experience, and I would without a doubt climb the cramped staircase happily any other chance that I get. Glendalough was particularly cool because we finally got to see and experience the real countryside and country culture that is a huge part of Irish history. Getting to see the Border Collies in action herding the sheep was awesome and really hit home for me because I used to have a Border Collie for a long time and he just recently passed away. All in all the Irish countryside really added to my perspective of Ireland itself and was a great experience.
