The part that is hardest to assimilate to in my opinion is the economic behavior of of the labor force. Timelines are subjective and vision is left for interpretation. The division of labor is different, roles are interconnected and education, work experience, and professional titles are less important. People flirt with ideas and projects, during the summer months the economy is on cruise control. Therefore, in building the foundation of a company’s business unit, acquiring information and initiating direction is difficult. You must create the direction yourself and the people will respect your vision. This internship has given me the autonomy to create the economic and business model of possible new business units. Leading the project is difficult but I have strong organization skills that enable me to do so. Being unfamiliar with the external political environment also proves challenging. One must utilize their resources to extract inputs to be able to generate safe and valid outputs. I have used my accounting skills to ground me and assure that my advice is economically and strategically correct. The principals of organization are excellent tools that any student should posses. I recommend the book, The FIFTH DISCIPLINE, by Peter M. Senge, it showcases the art of systems and helps one understands natural cycles that we see in front of us every day but do not conceptualize.
