Hi everyone! I’m Reid Schryer, a rising freshman at Pitt Business for Fall 2023. I’m from Reston, Virginia, where I finally completed the IB Diploma programme last spring through my high school. In my free time, I enjoy photography, exploring cities, and spending time with friends which makes Pitt and the Haller Fellowship a great fit for me! Currently, I am interested in Business Analytics through Pitt Business, but Finance and BIS also intrigue me. Additionally, I am considering the BPhil through the honors college, but right now that decision seems so far away. Pitt was a great fit for me because of the immense variety of opportunities both academically and socially, and I look forward to exploring more about the different clubs, interest groups, and other activities available.
This summer, I am part of the Haller Global Honors Fellowship, which is a one-month-long experience in Pittsburgh and Ireland. As a small cohort of seven, we’re tasked with learning about managing complex environments, before taking our studies to the field by participating in business site visits and collaborating with a startup in Dublin. I am writing this on day five, and already all of my goals and expectations for the program have been surpassed. I mostly wanted to meet a few people and get acclimated to college life, which was surprisingly easier than I would have thought. For the second portion in Ireland, I am looking forward to learning about the similarities and differences between professional business in Europe compared to America, and also seeing the result of our business theory and creative thinking come to life with the startup we’re working with. Building connections abroad is a unique experience that I am eager to start, as my time abroad has led me to find new perspectives that I am looking forward to expanding.
