Hello everyone, I am now through the halfway point at my stay in London and it has been great! Last weekend I visited Vienna, which was such a beautiful city. I am still very much enjoying my classes and my internship. I think the hardest part of getting acquainted is the work life balance because I am out of my apartment from 8am to 6 pm and I am trying to do everything in London that I want to do while I’m here. I do enjoy being busy though and I feel like I am getting valuable work experience that will help me in the future. I think also the work environment here is definitely different from America because it is more relaxed, which I am not used to.
I think for my classes, I am not used to the long classes, I have classes once a week for about three and a half hours, which is the longest class I’ve ever had. Midterms just ended for all my classes, and that period was extremely busy. All of my midterm projects and essays are very interesting topics to me though! I am extremely excited for Spring Break next week though. Not only to get a nice, relaxing break, but also to explore a new country, Spain.
I am not really experiencing unclear directions in my internship. I usually get one to two tasks a day that I have to complete, or I will have an ongoing class. I make sure to confirm with my supervisor what work I have to complete. Whenever things are unclear, I always make sure to ask. Also, if I find myself with no work, I make sure to ask for another task. I want to learn as much as I can from this internship, especially because I wish to do product management for a fashion company in the future.
Some challenges I’ve faced not related to my internship are planning my routes using public transportation. Public transportation is not new to me because I used it everyday to get to high school, but sometimes, since Londons transportation network is so large, trains and buses are easily delayed. So, one challenge is giving myself enough time to get to a place when factoring in commute time. I feel lucky to not have experienced many challenges during my stay. Adapting to London life have been pretty easy!
I love living in London and am exciting to keep living it. March is a month I am very excited for. I know I’ll be very busy but I’m sure that it will be good! Thanks for reading! Below is a picture of me in Vienna and some pictures of London!
