Hello! My name is Sara Rouizem. I am a rising junior majoring in Marketing and Global Management with an Economics minor, a certificate in Leadership & Ethics, and a certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship. This summer, I’m starting my adventure across the pond!
Through the Pitt GBI program, I’m looking forward to studying and interning in London for 6 weeks this summer. I chose London because it is a global business epicenter– endless opportunities and experiences exist here. Not only that, but it is also a multicultural hub teeming with thriving communities from across the globe. London allows you to not only experience English culture, but countless others as hundreds of ethnicities and cultures have made their mark on the city. The city itself, combined with the unique structure of the simultaneous course and internship, create a once-in-a-lifetime experience I am eager to embark on. I can’t wait to see it all!
With this program, I hope to gain a greater understanding of what it is like to work a real marketing job in an international setting. As much as I have learned in the classroom, nothing compares to the hand-on application that an internship provides. However, I recognize that this classroom is a unique experience as well. Being able to learn from an international professor while sitting among a variety of peers, each coming from different backgrounds is meaningful. My goal is to take in as many of these distinctly valuable experiences so that I can apply them and return home as a more well-rounded and worldly individual. There is so much to gain from all the people and places I will encounter here!
When it comes to my Clifton Strengths, I believe that being a relator will be the most important. This strength is centered on forming meaningful relationships, which is particularly significant in a setting brimming with diverse cultures and backgrounds. London is a city where cultures converge, and it’s this very diversity that makes it so vibrant and enriching. In the melting pot that is London, being able to connect and relate with others will guide me in finding common ground with the differing people I encounter, whether they are fellow students from around the globe, locals with rich stories to tell, or even visitors who are just passing through.
I can’t wait to share my experiences and reflections as I navigate the lovely streets of London, immerse myself in its rich culture, and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way. Stay tuned for more updates on my adventure in one of the world’s most exciting cities!
