Comparative Economics in Central Europe

Hi readers! My name is Morgan Pizzi and I’m a rising junior studying Marketing and Finance with a minor in Economics. I wanted to pursue a minor in such coursework ever since I took my first economics class. It has been something I find intriguing and what better way to learn then in new environments. Coming to college studying aboard has been something I’ve known I wanted to do. Having that experience this summer while learning something I find interesting was the best of both worlds. This opportunity has broadened my horizons in the economics field in a personal and professional manor.

I decided to choose this program because of its unique locations (Czech Republic and Poland) and how economics ties into each of them. Each of these countries have had economic transitions over time and having the opportunity to take a deeper look and hands on approach to learning was important in my decision. This program dove into the rebirth of these countries economic systems post communism and World War II. Exploring these dynamics firsthand promises to deepen my understanding of global economics while exposing me to diverse cultural perspectives. Teaching us about the different cultures and environments that have been fostered in such regions. This area of the world peaked my interest due to its deep history, studying economics in the area was a must for me.

Throughout the program I’d hope to gain new skills that will benefit me in personal and professional ways. I aimed to indulge into the each culture as much as possible, so as to learn as authentically about each country as I could . I aimed to make good impressions and friendships that will carry through in many settings such as personal, professional, and academic. Most importantly trying or doing something new everyday. Its not everyday the opportunity to study aboard comes along so making the most of my time by trying new things and experiences was my ultimate goal for the trip.

Some of my top strengths according to Clifton are restorative, individualization significance and deliberative. Leveraging some of these strengths will allow me to be more successful with times overseas. For example, being aboard will provide some problems at some point in time, being a restorative individual I am able to problem solve my way through things. This can be helpful in times of stress and confusion. Individualization strength may also come in handy so as to allow myself to understand all the new people I’m meeting and how to communicate and work best with each individual.

In conclusion, participating in this study abroad program represents a significant step in my academic and personal journey. Immersing myself in new environments and delving into the intricacies of economics within diverse cultural contexts has broadened my perspective in ways I hadn’t anticipated. The experience has equipped me with invaluable skills and insights that I am eager to apply both in my academic pursuits and professional endeavors.
