Hi! My name is Ruby Germack and I am from Brooklyn, New York. I am an upcoming junior at the University of Pittsburgh. I am pursuing a major in Marketing with minors in Economics and Italian, as well as a certificate in International Business.
Coming into college, I was unsure of what I wanted to major in. My passion for marketing quickly became apparent when I began doing social media marketing for a local restaurant in Brooklyn, the summer going into my Sophomore year. After discovering this passion, I continued to pursue it. Last semester, I was the marketing intern for a teen outreach center in Pittsburgh. Not only did this internship allow me to develop my marketing skills and experience, but it also surrounded me with people from all different backgrounds. Through this I was able to learn so much both professionally and personally, creating an extremely valuable experience.
I have always had an extreme interest in learning about new cultures and traveling. Due to this, I declared a certificate in International Business, as well as a minor in Italian, a language that many members of my family speak, and one I have loved to study. These interests have led me to the program I will be participating in this summer.
I will be participating in the International Internship Program in Prague. I selected this program because it aligns with all of my professional and personal goals. I will be gaining full time work experience in my field, while also immersing myself in a different country. I chose Prague specifically because my great grandparents immigrated to the United States from former Czechoslovakia. Being able to explore Prague and the Czech Republic is not only an amazing experience in general, but one that also allows me to understand my heritage and the culture in which my family originated.
In Prague, I will be the marketing intern with Move To Prague. Move To Prague provides relocation services for individuals and businesses. They aid with information about processes, visas, as well as living arrangements for those relocating. Move To Prague aligns greatly with many of my interests, such as immersing into different cultures, and meeting those who come from different backgrounds. The services that Move to Prague provides to people are extremely important, and something that I am very excited and grateful to be a part of.
This experience will be life changing in many different ways. Post-graduation, I want to live and work abroad. The experiences that I gain within this program will set me up perfectly to be able to achieve my post-graduation goals. Living and working within a different country will strengthen and further my ability to adapt to new situations, ones in which I am not accustomed to. This is an extremely important skill both within professional and personal settings. Working full time will also strengthen my ability to prioritize work, as well as enjoy my new environment. Finding this balance will allow me to get the most out of the experience. I am excited to develop skills that will enhance my whole life.
Within a few days, I will be headed to Prague. I am unbelievably excited for this experience and can not wait to see and experience everything Prague has to offer!
