I am officially done with my first week of work and another week of living in Dublin. I am really enjoying the work I am doing as an intern for The Grand Social and I have found ways to have fun and experience more of Ireland and Dublin as well. This past Tuesday, my friends and I were able to attend the friendly football (soccer) game between Ireland and Hungary. Football has been one of my favorite sports and to be able to see a game here was a ton of fun and an unforgettable experience. This past weekend I was also able to explore more of the city and experience more of Dublin and Ireland’s culture. Dublin is full of many great restaurants and museums, and I was really glad that I was able to see and experience them this past weekend and hope to continue to see more of the city and the country during the next couple of weeks living here. Through my internship, I was also able to get my first sort of look into both Ireland and Dublin’s music scene, and I am really excited to continue to learn more about this industry and to hopefully use this knowledge of the music industry here to help me during the rest of collegiate and professional career back home. I also hope to learn about the music scene here in Dublin and in Ireland outside of my internship through experiences like music festivals, concerts, and live events.
I feel like one of the most important and useful aspects of my internship and working at The Grand Social is managing my time and workload effectively. Not only is this a skill that is incredibly necessary for working in both college and for jobs, but it is super useful outside of the workplace as well. In my current internship, I feel like I manage both my time and my workload well, as I do not drag out the assignments given to me while also making sure that I complete my work to the best of my abilities. I also find ways to manage my time more effectively during periods of my workday where I do not have that much work or there is a lull period. Since I am interning for a music venue, one of my main goals and tasks is to help the venue research things in the music industry like trends, new artists, popular genres, customer tastes, seasonal music, and much more. During this downtime for my internship, I am still able to help my supervisor and the venue as a whole through this research, which not only gives me more info about Dublin and Ireland’s music scene, but it helps grow my passion for music even more, which is insanely helpful for helping me determine what kind of business industry that I want to have a career in. Another way that I can help out during times where I do not have that much work to do, is by helping other people out around the venue. Whether it be replacing posters for acts that already happened or helping clean up around the office or bar, these little things can be extremely helpful and also help keep me productive. Time management is a very vital skill to have in the music and business industry, and I am extremely grateful that this internship allows me to both grow and practice this skill every day. I also look forward to using these kinds of time management methods during both of my collegiate and professional careers in the future as well.
After one week, I really am enjoying my internship at The Grand Social and love that I am getting an exclusive inside look into how much of the music industry in Ireland really works. Music is a field that I am very passionate about, so to be able to research and see much of Ireland and Dublin’s music scene has been an unforgettable experience and I hope that I continue to learn more about it in the next coming weeks. I am also glad that The Grand Social has a really nice and understanding work environment. My supervisor and the other employees working at the venue have been super nice and kind to me, and this has made accumulating to the atmosphere and the workload of the place so much easier. It is also a low-stress environment, which is super helpful as it allows me to grow and learn more about working in the industry and within the culture of Ireland.
