Counting Down in Sydney

It’s exactly been a month since I came to Australia! Time really flies now that I am counting down the days I have left in Sydney. I think I fall in love with Sydney more and more every day. The city has so much to offer and 6 weeks is simply not enough for such a stunning city. I feel like I didn’t really branch out to too many places other than the Utimo and Bondi areas where I stay and work, but I will for sure take advantage of the city during my last week here.

My internship with OBK has gotten better as I get more and more used to the place and how it works. I was confused at times when I was told to do tasks that my remote supervisor and on-site supervisor told me differently. However, I quickly learned that it is super important to be communicating to people and ask questions even when I’m just slightly confused about that exactly my tasks are. I think I developed the most communication skills and just being proactive in working with people here at OBK as the kitchen is always so busy and it’s hard to have time to talk to people when we are all running around working on different things. I always knew that communication is key, but it wan’t really until working at OBK did I realize how important to not only communicate but to do it promptly when confusion appears.

A hard, technical skill I learned from working with OBK was how Netsuite, an ERP system, works. Since I’m a supply chain and business information systems major, having experience navigating through an ERP system definitely helps me with getting to know what an internal system looks like. Besides professional skills, I also acquired some cooking skills in the kitchen. I did a lot of kitchen duty as well, like food prepping for chopped carrots, peeled potatoes, and diced apples, and all of that definitely made me a better cook than I was before. I also found my talent in peeling potatoes, which I wouldn’t have discovered if I wasn’t on kitchen duty.

Moving forward, I think the experience and skills I have gained during my internship will help me work towards being more qualified for my future career goals. Not only just professionally handling supply chain challenges and internal information systems, but also necessary, practical life skills that I will be able to utilize for the rest of my life.

I’m grateful to have worked in OBK, getting to know how the supply chain works, and having the opportunity to talk to so many different people coming into the kitchen. I’ll cherish every moment during my last week while I’m in Sydney.
