At Move to Prague in The Czech Republic, I’ve had the opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable soft skills, hone technical abilities, and enhance my global competencies, all of which have been instrumental in navigating cross-cultural situations.
During my internship, I work with many international clientele, and an international team. The employees at Move To Prague celebrated this last week in the form of an international lunch. Everyone brought in food from their countries. There was representation from The Czech Republic, France, Spain, Russia, and America (I brought in Lucky Charms). It was really fun to try new things and learn more about everyone. Working with people from all different backgrounds has helped me learn, grow, develop, and strengthen many skills.
Transferable soft skills that I have developed include, cross-cultural communication, problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork and collaboration. Regarding cross-cultural communication, working with clients from various cultural backgrounds has sharpened my ability to communicate effectively and empathetically. Understanding different communication styles and cultural norms has been crucial in ensuring clear and respectful interactions. As well as this, the complexities involved in helping clients move to a new country have enhanced my problem-solving abilities. From navigating different hurdles to addressing clients’ unique concerns, each challenge has required innovative solutions and quick thinking. For adaptability, living and working in a new country demands a high level of adaptability. Adjusting to different work environments, embracing new customs, and handling unexpected situations have all contributed to my ability to remain flexible and resilient in diverse settings. Finally, for teamwork and collaboration, collaborating with an international team at Move to Prague has taught me the value of diverse perspectives. Effective teamwork, where each member’s unique background is appreciated, has led to more creative and efficient problem-solving.
Hard skills that I have developed include project management, and client relationship management. Managing marketing plans and content from start to finish has refined my project management skills. This includes planning, and executing these plans to make sure everything gets posted in a timely manner. I am responsible for not only the daily content on many platforms but also for creating monthly social media schedules, mapping out what should be posted when and what each post should be about. Creating these schedules has helped me to learn about management as well as interesting things occurring in Prague, and Prague as a whole. I have also developed my skill of client relationship management, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients both in office and online has also played a big role in my skill development. This involves understanding what clients want to see posted, and how I can assist them in the office.
My global competencies have been pivotal in navigating cross-cultural situations effectively. Understanding cultural nuances, showing respect for different traditions, and being open to new experiences have all played a role in my successful integration into the Czech work environment.
My internship at Move To Prague has been a transformative journey, providing me with invaluable soft and hard skills. From enhancing cross-cultural communication and problem-solving abilities to gaining technical expertise in project management and client relationship management, the experience has prepared me well for a global career. Navigating cross-cultural situations with ease has shown the importance of global competencies in today’s interconnected world.
Last week we also welcomed a new intern into the office, who is from Turkey. Now there are five of us, but this week we are saying goodbye to one as she is going home to Spain. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the other interns as well as every employee in the office, and get sad when I think about how fast time is flying.
Outside of my internship, this weekend I traveled to Paris, France. Last Thursday was a holiday in the Czech Republic, so we had a three day weekend. This weekend trip may have been one of the best trips I have ever been on. Paris was amazing, the food was amazing, and I had a great time with who I traveled with. I definitely want to go back to Paris in the future. This coming weekend, I will be traveling to Barcelona which I am very excited for. All in all during this program I will have traveled to Austria, Hungary, Germany, France, Spain, and (obviously) the Czech Republic. I feel so lucky to have gained the experiences from this program both in my internship and outside of it. I am looking forward to another great week in Prague and a great weekend in Spain!
