Last week in Dublin

It’s crazy to believe that my 8 weeks in Dublin have officially come to an end and that I’ll be heading back home soon. These two months in Ireland have been nothing short of extraordinary, filled with memorable experiences and incredible people. Living and working in Dublin has left a lasting impression on me, and I know I’ll miss the vibrant city, the friendly locals, and the picturesque landscapes that have become a part of my daily life.

During my final week, I made sure to savor every moment, both at work and with the friends I’ve made. At the office, my coworkers and I celebrated with a special going-away party that doubled as a birthday celebration for me. The party, held on our last working day, was a heartfelt farewell. We enjoyed a delicious catered lunch, and I was touched to receive a signed card and a thoughtful gift—a case and bottle of Irish Whiskey. Saying goodbye to my coworkers and supervisor was bittersweet, as I reflected on the valuable experiences and relationships I had built over the summer. Working in Dublin has been a rewarding journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Outside of work, I made the most of my remaining time with friends, ensuring that each night was filled with fun and adventure. Our final week was a whirlwind of activities as we aimed to create lasting memories. The highlight was undoubtedly my last Friday in Dublin, which coincided with my 20th birthday. We went all out, visiting numerous bars, capturing countless photos at various iconic spots around the city, and reveling in each other’s company. It was a night of laughter, joy, and a tinge of sadness as we prepared to say our goodbyes and return home.

Reflecting on my time in Ireland, I’ve come to realize that the concept of “success” here differs from that in the United States. In the U.S., success often revolves around individual achievements and contributions to the company. However, in Ireland, success encompasses more than just results. The Irish workplace culture places a strong emphasis on cohesion, teamwork, and mutual support. I observed numerous instances of coworkers collaborating and assisting one another on projects, fostering a sense of camaraderie that I had not experienced as much back in the States. This supportive environment has shown me a different, more holistic approach to success, one that values relationships and collective effort just as much as individual accomplishments.

The lessons I’ve learned and the memories I’ve made during my time in Dublin will stay with me forever. From the bustling streets of Temple Bar to the serene beauty of Phoenix Park, every corner of this city holds a special place in my heart. The friendships I’ve formed here are just as significant, with bonds that have grown stronger through shared experiences and adventures. Whether it was exploring the historic sites, enjoying the local cuisine, or simply spending evenings chatting and laughing with friends, each moment contributed to a rich tapestry of unforgettable memories.

As I prepare to leave Dublin, I carry with me not just souvenirs and photographs but a deeper understanding of what it means to connect with people and places. This experience has broadened my perspective, making me appreciate the diverse ways in which people live and work around the world. Dublin has taught me the value of community and the importance of balancing professional aspirations with personal relationships. It’s a lesson that will undoubtedly influence my future endeavors, reminding me to always seek out meaningful connections and to cherish the journey as much as the destination.

While I am looking forward to getting back to my friends and family back home in the United States, I truly am glad that I decided to take a risk this summer and go on this internship in Dublin. Not only did it push me out of my comfort zone and give me a glimpse into how the working and business world functions in Ireland, but it allowed me to meet so many great people and gave me to find and grow into the type of person that I really want to be. This experience has been so much fun, and I am so glad that it had such a positive effect on me. So again, while I am glad to be back home, I will remember the memories and connections that I have made and be super grateful that I was able to experience so much of another culture during these past 8 weeks.
