Czeching Out: Final Reflections on My Prague Internship

Writing this post back in the states I can not be more sad to have left such a beautiful place behind, but I will cherish all the knowledge, memories, and experiences I have gained from my two months abroad in europe. Firstly, this would have not been possible with the scholarship I received from Pitt Global Experiences Office scholarship, and for that I am deeply grateful. My study abroad program was a 8 week international internship where I was placed with Lincoln Property Company on the investment and asset management team. I was able to gain hands-on experience on real estate and the financial investment world.

Living and working in Prague was a remarkable journey of personal growth. Navigating a new city, embracing a different culture, and adapting to a new way of life significantly enhanced my independence and self-reliance. I have become more adaptable and open-minded, learning to appreciate and embrace the diversity that exists in the world. This experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, teaching me resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges. Never having left the United States before this trip I have developed a stronger sense of self and a greater appreciation for the richness of different cultures.

Academically, this internship has enriched my understanding of investment management and real estate markets. The practical experience of applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios has been invaluable. Working alongside professionals in the field has given me a deeper understanding of industry practices and trends. I have developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will undoubtedly enhance my academic performance and provide a solid foundation for my future studies. My boss even would sit me down to explain the European market and gave me books to read about it to have a good understanding. Additionally, the exposure to European market dynamics has broadened my perspective, allowing me to approach academic problems with a more global outlook.

Professionally, my time in Prague has been a period of significant development. I gained practical experience in financial analysis, market evaluation, and investment strategies. Collaborating with a diverse team improved my communication and teamwork skills, essential traits in the professional world. The emphasis on quality, precision, and a balanced work-life approach influenced my professional outlook, teaching me the importance of delivering high-quality work while maintaining personal well-being. This experience has also highlighted the importance of networking and building professional relationships in a global context.

One of the key takeaways from my internship is the importance of cultural awareness and adaptability. Working in an international environment highlighted the value of understanding and respecting different cultural perspectives. This experience underscored the importance of continuous learning and professional development. Staying updated with industry trends and enhancing my skills will be crucial for my career growth. Moreover, I learned the value of effective communication and collaboration, which are essential in any professional setting. When working abroad it is important to remember that you are in their country and it is essential to adapt to their ways to respect their cultural norms and practices.

As I return to Pitt, I plan to integrate these lessons and experiences into my academic and professional journey. I will approach my studies with a more practical perspective, applying real-world insights to my coursework. I also intend to share my experiences with fellow students, encouraging them to seek international opportunities and broaden their horizons. I hope to contribute to the global awareness on campus by participating in discussions and initiatives that promote cultural exchange and understanding.

Professionally, I am committed to maintaining the high standards of quality and precision I learned in Prague. I will strive to balance my professional responsibilities with personal well-being, ensuring a sustainable and fulfilling career. The skills and knowledge I have gained during this internship will be instrumental in my future career in investment management and finance. I aim to bring a global perspective to my work, leveraging the insights and experiences from my time abroad to drive innovation and excellence.

My internship in Prague has been a profound experience of personal, academic, and professional growth. I am deeply grateful for the support from the Pitt Global Experiences Office scholarship, which made this opportunity possible. As I move forward, I will carry the lessons and insights gained from this experience, applying them to my studies at Pitt and my future career. This journey has been an unforgettable chapter in my life, one that has prepared me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. While I am sad to have left such a beautiful place behind, I am excited to apply everything I have learned to my future endeavors.
