Hello there! My name is Haddie Bushman, a junior Film and Media Studies major and Business minor. I am originally from Chicago and have grown up with a passion for filmmaking and channeling my creativity into writing and production.
I have previously worked as a film editor, a job which I loved, however, I have become more interested in production after my experience producing my own film in the Czech Republic in the summer of 2024. I am currently studying in London through the Pitt in London Film Program where
I am learning both a critical side of film analysis as well as the practical, production based piece. London is a central location for production companies and the arts as a whole, making this the best location for studying in the arts. My goals for this program include to take risks with my filmmaking, learning new practical methods while still adhering to my personal style.
The Pitt in London Film Program is situated in a conglomerate of other universities, creating a campus feel in the chaos of Central London. The culture of the city is similar to that of Chicago, where I grew up, in that it is very fast paced, with a new event always around the corner. What is different from Chicago, however, is the large expanses of London, given that no matter where the tube may take you, there is always something to do.
A major difference between Verto, the institution which hosts us students, and Pitt, is the London-centric classes we have. At Pitt, there is a wide variety of cultural classes specifically in the film department, however, at Verto, us students are entirely focused on British cinema.
My new neighborhood is right in the hustle and bustle of the city, specifically a few minute walk away to the world-famous Borough Market. The neighborhood is filled with various cuisines and grocery markets for the occasional meal at home. The flat I am staying at, along with four other filmmakers, has allowed a space for creativity and discussion to occur. The location provides inspiration to the endless opportunities London has to offer, with our large picture windows surrounding the entire flat. Living with four other creatives has been a great experience thus far, as there is always something new to learn and listen to. Living in this city has already provided a new outlook for my personal and professional life, and I am lucky to have so much more time here!
