Interning in London

Today I will be writing about what it’s like doing an internship in London. I am interning at Influence Associates, a PR/marketing firm that works with automotive industry clients. Some key skills that are necessary for this sort of work are creativity, collaboration, communication, and decision making. Being able to work effectively alongside others is key, as well as making decisions about potential media coverage options. This has been a great opportunity for me to develop some of these skills, even though I already have experience in most. I have been able to really hone in on these particular skills, and get more efficient in utilizing them.

A trait I pride myself on is being a self-starter, and this has helped my success in this role. Taking initiative has been a key success factor, as I am not afraid to ask for more work, take on new tasks, and use trial and error to develop the best outcome of my work.

Some things I’ve noticed about the dynamics of this professional culture is that it is fast-paced. There are occasional lulls in my own work, but my coworkers constantly have a lot going on with clients. Some of our clients are releasing new models and need high media coverage in a short period of time. It is very exciting to hear about their schedules, and even play my own role in it. Because of this, some of my tasks are highly urgent, which is a style that motivates me. I thrive in fast-paced environments, so Influence’s professional culture has been a perfect fit for me.
