Interning in Sydney

Studying abroad in Sydney has been an incredible opportunity to grow both academically and professionally. I am interning with Neuroblastoma Australia while taking international marketing, international finance, and Australian cinema. At my internship I have a lot of different jobs I will be doing throughout the semester. At the moment I am prize sourcing and beginning a recollect project. Shortly, I will be helping with the marketing for a large run that will be ran by one man later in the year. So, helping to generate initial buzz around his journey will be a key role.

Success in both my internship and coursework requires problem-solving, strong communication skills, and creative thinking. Considering I work remote for most of my week, having good communication is a must to keep things moving. Leveraging my Clifton Strength, such as adaptability, has helped me navigate this experience effectively. Not only am I across the world but taking classes and interning is another aspect that requires adaptability.

The professional and academic culture in Sydney is more relaxed compared to the US, emphasizing collaboration and work-life balance. Attesting to work life balance, people log off and stop working when their hours are up. Sometimes in the US this is not the case where work emails will be tended to at night or earl y in the morning before heading into the office. In Australia when you’re not on the clock you aren’t doing anything relating to work. This lifestyle is refreshing and has reinforced my passion for working hard but also leaves room for my personal passions outside of work, which I am extremely grateful for. I am excited to continue learning and growing throughout the semester, gaining skills that will be valuable for my future career.
