I can’t believe my time here is almost over. It feels like I arrived just yesterday, nervously attempting to navigate my new surroundings. My experience studying abroad in London has been one of the most transformative chapters of my life, both personally and professionally. Living in one of the world’s financial capitals offered unique exposure to global markets, economic systems, and real-world financial practices. Academically, I’ve grown beyond the basic fundamentals I learned in my finance classes. I’ve learned how to apply critical thinking, write analytically and creatively, and connect classroom concepts with real-world applications through immersive field studies and guest lectures.
Personally, this experience has helped me develop confidence and independence in ways I didn’t expect. As someone who is usually introverted, navigating a new city, living with new people, and managing a longer commute to classes pushed me far outside my comfort zone. I now feel less anxious when meeting new people and I am more open to exploring unfamiliar environments. Sometimes I even travelled solo. I’ve learned to appreciate the little things, from mastering the London Tube to finding comfort in my neighborhood grocery store. Balancing schoolwork, travel, and daily life has made me more adaptable and intentional with my time.
Professionally, my time in London helped sharpen my communication, time management, and problem-solving skills. Managing group projects in a multicultural classroom and writing regular papers instead of taking exams challenged me to organize my thoughts clearly and communicate effectively. I am sure I will use these skills in the future. I also developed a broader global perspective, especially after engaging in discussions on international finance and visiting places like the Bank of England and the Museum of Brands. These experiences have deepened my interest in global markets and will undoubtedly help me as I pursue a career in finance.
As I return to Pitt Business, I plan to integrate what I’ve learned by continuing to seek diverse perspectives in my classes, pushing myself outside my academic comfort zone, and taking advantage of more interdisciplinary opportunities. I will also bring back the independence and adaptability I’ve gained. Most likely, this will be through tackling a new leadership role, participating more in class, or preparing for my next internship. This experience has reinforced my desire to continue traveling and exploring, and I now have a deeper appreciation for learning through experience.
To my scholarship donor, thank you for making this opportunity possible. Your support enabled me to grow in ways I never anticipated, and I am excited to carry these lessons with me into the next phase of my journey.
