Papers, wool, and wind

We had a chance to visit the local newspaper, Tyrconnell Tribune today! The team consists of only six people all of whom do the writing, printing, photography, and more. They send it out once every week, and almost 4000 copies! We saw the printing machines too, and how the papers are made, out of only four colors mixed together in different ways. The most important thing for them is the community. They’ve had business for many years, and that’s by having a good bond with the community to whom they sell to.

We also visited McNutts in Downings, and spoke with the owner. He told us about its history, and how him and his brother inherited the store from their father. After a brief crash, the two of them were able to revitalize it by finding a new way to focus on their textiles which are now mainly sourced in their main location in Downings and sold there and other smaller locations throughout the country.

Both of these focus on community, but while the newspaper is focused only outside the building, McNutts is focused on what goes on in the factory. Yet in their own way, both businesses have found a way to prosper and go on.
