Over the past two days, I realized that the weather is just as much a part of Donegal as the landscapes themselves. At Glenveagh, the overcast skies made the park feel peaceful and almost mysterious, while the light rain gave the forests and mountains a deeper green color. At Sliabh Liag, we had a perfectly clear day. We got lucky, and the day definitely promoted more tourists to visit.
After our rainy visit to Giant’s Causeway, I realized how much weather changes the experience of these places. Unlike indoor attractions, landscapes can never be fully controlled. Rain, fog, and wind can make it harder for visitors to enjoy the scenery, cancel hikes, or make photography more difficult. That unpredictability is a challenge for businesses that depend on tourism because visitors may leave disappointed if conditions are poor.
At the same time, the weather is also one of Donegal’s greatest strengths. It gives each visit a different personality, so no two experiences are ever exactly alike. Instead of trying to hide the unpredictable weather, destinations can embrace it by encouraging visitors to experience the landscape in every condition.
