My experience in South Africa has been extraordinary. Visiting Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town, and experiencing such a beautiful country with a very harsh and recent history, has greatly contributed to my journey of expanding who I am as a person and my knowledge of other people and cultures. I’ve seen a lot of growth…

Skill Development Abroad: Communication and Research in South Africa
I am developing a lot of transferable or soft skills during my time in South Africa. I believe the soft skill I am developing the most is my communication, particularly my communication with people from different backgrounds. Being a student in the College of Business Administration has allowed me to interact with a variety of…
Finding Common Ground in South Africa
Ethnically, I am Nigerian, so being in an African country, I find that I share many similarities with some of the cultural aspects. Although being African is not a monolith and one cannot lump all African countries together, there are still some shared similarities on the continent. With that being said, I can relate to…
Settling into Cape Town

From start to finish, I felt comfortable and connected with everyone even though I didn’t know anyone going into it. I also loved the itinerary of the trip….
Can I Stay?
I have been in Cape Town for almost 3 weeks now, and to put it simply, I could live here. We have been quite spoiled living and going to classes in the same hotel, but I’m not complaining about it! I love everything about our hotel here. We have a small kitchenette, it’s a short…
Savoring South Africa
Expectations? I tried not to have too many! I was very openminded when it came to my expectations prior to departing for the program. I expected to be busy traveling between cities, as well as going on day trips for classes. I anticipated classes which would connect what we saw in the museums to a…
Starting out Strong
All I can say is “wow”. These past 2 weeks have been amazing. I don’t even know where to begin! I think the plane ride is a good place to start… I must admit- the flight wasn’t horrible, and the jet lag could have been a lot worse. Fortunately, I slept for almost 6 hours….
