Preparing for a Semester in the “Land Down Under”

My name is Tessa Sowell and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be studying abroad in Sydney, Australia this Spring.  Currently, I am a junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying Marketing with a minor in Statistics. I am so excited to be taking a couple marketing classes and working an internship while abroad.

As I love to travel both domestically and internationally, I knew study abroad was perfect for me. There has never been even the slightest hesitation when choosing where I wanted to study abroad. I have always wanted to travel to Sydney and having the opportunity to stay for an extended period of time, further my education and visit some of the most beautiful sites during the SUMMER were all reasons why I choose this location. I love the idea of Sydney because of the ability to gain experience in this thriving global centre of business with such a rich history, but without the complexity of a language barrier.

With finals week just being last week, it didn’t truly hit me that I will be going abroad so soon. But while I am in the midst of starting to pack, I think it is starting to set in. The excitement and the nerves are being pulled together in a whirlwind of feelings. I am excited to have this opportunity  to immerse myself in this new place, meet all new people, start my new classes and have the opportunity to hold an international internship. But at the same time I know that I will miss my family and my Pitt friends immensely. With the time difference, it will certainly be a challenge to get use to not being able to pick up the phone to call my parents or my friends to share something instantly. Overall though, I am excited for what is to come.

I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with them and you throughout my time abroad.

Until then!
