Leaving Sydney

Hey everyone! My trip is coming to a close so this will be my last post from Sydney. Overall, I have had an amazing experience on my study abroad trip. Coming into the trip I was definitely skeptical about having to live with 7 other people in one apartment. Although the apartment did get messy at at times, it turned out to be a good experience. I was able to become close with all of my apartment mates and have now developed strong friendships with each and every one of them.

My internship also was a great experience. Working at H&R Block, I learned so much about accounting and the United States tax system in general. I had very minimal knowledge on either of these things before coming, so being here learning was something that I enjoyed. My co-workers and the other intern at my job were also very friendly, making working a more enjoyable experience. I felt like I was truly one of the people who worked in the office rather than simply an intern who would only be there for six weeks.

From this trip, I have learned a lot. Personally I have definitely met my goal of being able to be by myself in another country. Although Australia is not too different from America, I am still very proud of myself for figuring out the culture and city without any family members. Although I did get lost a few times along the way, it was exciting once I began to recognize different areas of the city and know exactly how to get places. I feel that I truly embraced being here and the slight differences the city has from America. Whether it is picking up on Australian slang terms, learning  Celsius and the metric system, or even walking on the left side of the side walk, I have done my best to truly try and be a part of the Sydney culture.

I met my academic goals as well by being able to complete my class and my internship so that I could receive my credit. I have loved my Sports Marketing class and have never met an individual who knows as much about sports all over the world as my professor does. Being in a class where I am learning about a topic that I love has been a great experience.

Overall, I loved my experience in Sydney and am sad to leave so soon. Signing off!attach
