IS is the FUTURE

Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Familiar With: Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you already have familiarity and experience with. What is the value added by this area of IS?

I have the most experience with entertainment IS as a consumer. Using innovative software packages and internet packages, I have seen the advancement of the industry. I am well aware of many of the concepts of the IS solutions, but I have little knowledge of how they function. The entertainment segment of IS provides great improvements to the field for both consumers and producers. Consumers are more easily able to access much more content with better streaming capabilities. Producers can utilize this tech to more efficiently produce and distribute this content. Innovations also enable the development of newer forms of entertainment, such as AR and VR.

Emerging Area of Information Systems (IS) That You Are Less Familiar With/Would Like to Learn More: Based on the IS-related areas that are identified in these slides, identify one specific emerging area of IS that you are less familiar with, but would like to learn more/gain experience with. What is the value added by this area of IS?

I have relatively little knowledge of fintech apart from the banking app on my phone. I understand that IS can become very useful in the financial industry with all its data. Some concepts, like online banking and biometrics make sense, but some are surprising. For example, I am very curious about blockchain, big data, Regtech, and their functions. There is immense value to IS in this field as it can enhance security and expedite many processes and transactions involving the financial industry. As the world embraces technology, the ability to computerize currency and finances will become increasingly imperative. Cryptocurrencies may even become a viable alternative in the future with reliable fintech.

Other Examples Like This?: Based on the IS-related material that you see in these slides, what specific areas do you likely to see as a big part of your career and professional development (i.e. where do you want to gain experience in internships and your first jobs)?

I definitely see advances in fintech and industry becoming a part of my early work experiences. Even now, companies are working to embrace the future of IS with cloud based platforms and systems. In most every substantial company, business interns work with these systems and often aid the company’s aged staff with “new” technology, making it an important part of the job. As a business intern, working with and around fintech will also be important, especially as I am interested in finance. I am not particularly into compsci, so I cannot see myself being heavily involved with the production of IS in these fields, but I think I will have to work with and embrace them as the continually innovate and change the business landscape.
