Blog Post Prompt – Sunday August 4, 2019:
Our only Sunday spent in Ireland is interesting, as we will tour the Kilmainham Gaol, which was once used as a prison for Irish rebels during the British colonization of Ireland. We will then do a bus tour across the City of Dublin in which we will examine monuments and site from the history of the City of Dublin. Several of you also have your own individual plans to meet up with friends and relatives of your’s who live in Dublin/Ireland. In a short blog post, tell us how you spent your only Sunday in Ireland.
The Kilmainham Gaol was an interesting start to the day, and the time we spent there was very informative. I was unaware going in that the prison has a very different significance for the Irish than what I was expecting, being that it was the site in which many of the leaders of rebellions against the British were held and executed. After visiting the Kilmainham Gaol, we took a bus to the small fishing village, Howth, where we did a hike on the cliffs that overlook the Irish Sea. The hike was full of great views and really showed off the impressive shoreline that Ireland has to offer.
