London Calling

Hello everyone! My name is Lindsey, and I am so excited to be writing to you all from London! I am originally from outside of Philadelphia in Delaware County. I am currently a junior at Pitt majoring in Marketing and pursuing certificates in International Business and Leadership and Ethics. On campus I am involved in Women in Business, Delta Sigma Pi, and the Chinese American Student Association. I have also been fortunate enough to be a marketing intern with Pitt Eats, a summer intern with Bolt Public Relations, and this upcoming summer I will be interning with JP Morgan Chase.

It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad, especially after participating in a French exchange program in high school and having the opportunity to travel a lot with my family. Thus, I have chosen to go aboard through the Global Business Institute program in London in hopes of growing personally, academically, and professionally. I hope that through my courses, exploration of the city, and interactions with the communities in London, I will be able to immerse myself into new cultures and experience different ways of business in this unique English-speaking city.

As I finish up my 4th week of classes at the CAPA institution, I have finally established a solid routine and schedule that balances my academic life and social life. Attending school here has been a big adjustment as classes are 3 hours long and typically only occur once a week. However, despite the changes from Pitt, I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by the familiar faces of fellow Pitt Business students in my classes! While abroad I am taking courses towards completing my International Business Certificate, such as International Economics and International Dimensions of Organizational Behavior, courses related to my major including International Marketing and Managing Global Supply Chain, and finally an Analyzing and Exploring the Global City class to explore and learn more about the city of London.

In terms of living, I am currently housed in the neighborhood of White Chapel, located in East London. It is a neighborhood filled with culture and residents from all over the world. Living here has allowed me to explore so much of East London as I am only a 10-minute walk away from Tower Bridge and a 10 min walk away from Spitalfields Market. I am also only a 5-minute walk away from the tube station and a 40-minute tube ride away from my classes. In terms of my flat, there are 6 of us total, and I did not know any of them prior to coming to London! While 6 people can be very overwhelming, living them has been so much fun and has allowed me to meet people from different universities and even countries (2 of my roommates came all the way from Nepal!).

All in all, living in London has been a dream come true and has allowed me a balance of diverse educational opportunities as well as cultural experiences. I am so excited to continue sharing my journey with you all this semester!

That’s it for now!
