Hi! My name is Lillian Moul but everyone calls me Lilly (with two L’s). I am a rising senior Marketing Major in the School of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh. This past year, I held the position of vice president of Club Swim at Pitt which was an amazing experience. I love swimming and have been competitively swimming since I was about 6 or 7 years old! Over the summers, when I am not taking classes at Pitt, I work for United States Liability Insurance Company as an underwriting assistant.
One of the biggest aspects of my life and who I am is that I am always busy! I love to be active and am constantly trying new things. I love to snowboard in the winters and surf and skate during the summer. I love reading and sketching when I have free time and I especially love the outdoors. I grew up in a family that was always going on adventures, whether that was camping, backpacking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, repelling, or just going on a casual hike. I am so grateful to have been able to have those experiences throughout my life and at an early age it instilled in me a sense of gratitude towards nature and the environment as well as teaching me many life lessons along the way.
The International program I will be participating in is Leadership in the Himalayas. In exactly three days I will be departing for Delhi, India and then on to Mussoorie, which lies in the foothills of the Himalayas. I have backpacked through Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada, climbed to the top of an old volcanic cinder cone crater in Arizona, and hiked the infamous Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park, but I have yet to experience anything like the Himalayas. Least to say I am very excited but also nervous! I have already formed connections with my amazing classmates through our pre departure classes and can’t wait to get to know them even better on our trek. During this program, we will be receiving six credits total for both our academic studies of the many leadership theories as well as the experiential or practicum part of our trip. I am both excited for the outdoor adventure and challenges that await as well as putting all of our hard work and studies of leadership theories and competencies into action during the outdoor education portion of the program.
Even though this is an academic program, it is also just one more adventure I am going on. One where I will have to attempt to overcome the many challenges along the way. And of course I won’t be alone in this because I know I will have the help and support of my fellow adventurers (classmates) throughout our entire trip! I am beyond excited and so grateful to be able to have this experience.
