Taking on the Land Down Under

Hi! My name is Julianna Werner and I am currently a rising junior in the business school.  I am majoring in marketing and supply chain with certificates in Leadership and Ethics and Business Analytics.  In addition, I am pursuing a LCJS minor through the College of General Studies.  I am originally from the Pittsburgh area.  On campus, I am involved in American Marketing Association, Women in Business, and the Student Civic Engagement Council.  I work as an Intramural Soccer Supervisoron campus and a Marketing Specialist for First Sip Brew Box.  While not in class or meetings, I enjoy hanging out with friends and watching Netflix.  I often try to get off campus and explore the city.  I often go out to different neighborhoods and try different restaurants.  I look forward to eating tons of different foods and exploring new places this summer, just in a whole different way.

I chose business since I love connecting with people and making an impact.  I found that I liked being creative, and numbers were not exactly my strong suit.  I found marketing interesting and something I wanted to pursue.  In addition, I find logistics interesting.  Especially with my competitive fire, I want to find the cheapest, easiest, most reliable way to do things.  With these focuses in mind, I want to expand my mind to understand what these look like on a global scale.  I love talking to people of diverse backgrounds.  I chose Pitt for opportunities just like this one.  This is my third time abroad.  Previously, I went to Costa Rica for a mission trip and traveled to Germany with Pitt Business’s Plus 3 Program.

While in Sydney, I will be completing an internship and taking a class to fill six credits over the six week time frame.  I just started my internship with a company called Sandwalk Partners.  They are a company specializing in business development and strategy for tourist and cultural attractions organizations.  I work twenty hours a week with the company.  My main project is to complete a market analysis and feasibility report for a cultural index benchmarking tool.  For another large portion of my week, I am preparing and taking my class, Australian Cinema.  Although I do not have a strong interest in cinematography, I believe the class will help my understanding of the culture and present me with new perspectives on how to analyze film.

I’m excited to see what’s next and I will continue blogging with updates.  Hail to Pitt!
