Liv in London!

Hi everyone! Here’s some information about me as I start my summer semester abroad in London! My name is Olivia Ciampi and I am a rising junior in the College of Business Administration. I am double majoring in Marketing and Business Information Systems, as well as pursuing a certificate in Public and Professional Writing. Upon graduation, I am interested in working as a part of a marketing team that allows me to be creative and provides opportunities to write. I am participating in Pitt’s GBI London program this summer! Over the six weeks I’m here, I will be taking one class and gaining experience through an internship. I chose this program for many reasons: due to my course load, studying abroad for a semester isn’t a sensible option, being able to gain internship experience this summer in another country seemed like an amazing opportunity, and I have never left the country before! This program was the perfect opportunity for me to complete credits over the summer, gain work experience, and travel.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, hanging out with my friends, and doing any kind of outdoor activity; I’m really looking forward to exploring London and learning about everything the city has to offer!

Through this experience, I hope to gain skills regarding cross-cultural communication, writing, and adapting to new environments. Through my class and my internship, I will be able to really focus on my writing skills, as the course I am taking is called “Writing the City” and I am working as a marketing intern with a focus on copywriting and email marketing for a start-up here in London. I’m excited to be challenged, learn new things, and be able to apply what I learned through my marketing internship this past spring!

My Clifton Strengths will definitely be useful as I navigate working and learning in London! My top five Clifton Strengths are woo, positivity, communication, includer, and input. As I approach a new academic and professional environment, I will utilize skills such as woo, positivity, and includer to build relationships with those around me as I meet my roommates, new people in my class, and my coworkers. My communication and input skills will be especially useful in my internship, as they will assist me in carrying out my responsibilities to the best of my ability by enabling me to ask questions when I’m confused and contribute ideas for the projects I will be working on. I will be sure to remember and use my Clifton Strengths as my class and internship begin tomorrow! I am so excited for this experience to begin, and so grateful to be a part of this program!
