New Places, New People

I am located in West Kensington, which is only a twenty minute walk from the CEA CAPPA center where I take my classes. It is a very busy location – with many shops, pubs, and a tube stop right across from my flat. My neighborhood is very pretty, and you can walk to just about anything that you might need within 10-15 minutes. It is an extremely efficient location. I have been exploring a lot lately, and that is what the attached pictures are of. My adventures here have just begun, but they must start with the biggest sightseeing places of course!

I live in a flat with one other roommate, and we are both gluten free which is really nice when planning meals and buying groceries. It is a roomy enough flat, considering that it was originally for three people and is now only housing two. It has been such a blessing to have a washer that is also a drier as well. I have never had to fully cook for myself, so this learning period has been fun to find out what I can do to cook for myself in our little kitchen.

In comparison to Pitt and home, this situation is quite different. Although the efficiency of transportation is similar, most everything is slightly different. The amount of stores and pubs in the immediate location is so efficient. The tube is also the best way to travel, so much more reliable and faster than the buses at Pitt. I much enjoy the kitchen aspect of the flat, being that I am in dorms at school as an RA.

My internship is with Castlehaven Community Association (CCA), and I am working under their head of social media and marketing. I mostly help with the social media aspect, helping plan and create posts for Instagram, Facebook, Next-Door, and LinkedIn. My job has been to use Canva and Meta to create new ideas and also organize our resources. I hopefully will be able to expand my role to attending events and taking photos, and working possibly in other areas that need my help in the organization.

The classes here are much much smaller than those I take at Pitt, which is a cool way to get to know your classmates and professor better. I am taking an internship class (pairs with the internship) and also an Analyzing and Exploring London (the Global City) class.

To be successful in this environment, you need to be flexible and willing to learn. In the new country, a new job, a new way of life, being able to adapt is key not only to survival but also to success in a new workplace.
