First Days in Dublin

I can say it already has been an amazing experience thus far and it has only been one week in Dublin!! I am starting to feel much more comfortable in a new environment and have made some amazing friends. The Pitt kids stick together:) I have already tried new things, such as fish and chips, which unpopular opinion I know, but was not my favorite. However, I still gave it a try and would not say it was the worst thing I have ever tried. I am making it a goal to say yes when offered to try a different food, and so far I have been right on track. I have said yes, and although some were not my favorite, some were. I tried a rice ball, and for those of you who do not know, it is a breaded ball filled with mozzarella cheese and rice. It sounds much worse than it was. It was delicious and I am really happy my roommates pushed me to try it! Additionally, we went to go see a castle, which I was really excited about because that was on my bucket list. Unfortunately, we had a bit of a mishap with the buses, and did not get to see the lighthouse I wanted to see, or get farther than 10 minutes outside of UCD. However, it was definitely a good try, and we learned that as long as you are with good company, anything can be a good time.

I am very excited and nervous to be able to start my internship this week. I am working at the Laughter Lounge, which is Irelands Biggest Comedian Club. I am working behind the scenes, and not as the comedian!! I will be working with the Public Relations and Marketing team, expanding their social media following, and helping with the mailing list. I will be working closely with the management team and assisting them with any administrative tasks. I am excited to see another side of public relations, considering I have been working more in productions and broadcasting. This will be a great learning experience in helping me decide what exactly I want to do with my life in the future. Plus, I get to go to comedian shows, so that just makes it even better!!

The key skills necessary to take on a roll in the Public relations/marketing of the Laughter Lounge would consist of being creative, having good attention to detail and communication skills. I need to think outside of the box in different ways to showcase what the Laughter Lounge is all about. I may have to edit different videos or pictures that will be posted on the Laughter Lounge social medias. Which everyone should follow on instagram and TikTok! Attention to detail will be important as well. I will need to be thorough as I sift through the mailing lists and talk to different hotels to make sure the Laughter Lounge is an activity they are promoting. Furthermore, communication is going to be a key learning experience. Since The United States speaks with high context and Ireland speaks with low context it might be a bit difficult to understand what my co workers truly mean. I am going to have to ask many questions and pay close attention to how they say something more so then what they are saying.

I believe that all these key skills will definitely be just as necessary back at home when I am looking for a job or other internship. Creativity, attention to detail, and communication are three very important qualities to have when searching for a job. Another quality that I will be improving on in my time in Dublin will be my time management skills. There is so much to do, so many activities, but also work, and homework. I have to be able to manage my time so I am where I am supposed to be and complete the work that needs to be done in a timely manner. This skill applies to any job or internship. Although it may be a bit different because it seems in Ireland to be more easy going than in the United States, this is still an amazing and hard quality to achieve.

All in all, I am super excited to take on this new challenge. I feel that it was a huge step to just move to a different country for two months, and I was able to adjust well in just one week. Now I am ready for the next challenge, working in a different country. I think it is going to be very unique and something that I will be able to talk about in my future interviews, or just with friends and family. Laughter Lounge better be excited because I sure am!!
