The program I had the opportunity to go on was located in 2 countries, so I had the privilege of living and learning in two different locations. For the entirety of the program we stayed in hotel rooms with one other roommate. Each hotel we stayed in had a different feel which was great to experience. In Prague the hotel room felt more apartment style, or something you would see in a boutique hotel in the states. While our hotel in Krakow was comparable to those in the US. In both the neighborhoods we were located in we had the ability to get almost anywhere by foot. Both cities were so walkable which I really enjoyed. I was able to adapt very quickly to the different living situation. I was also rooming with someone I had known previously so that definitely played a role into the transition. As far as our studies, in Prague we were with CET that had a location where we would have class. It was similar to Pitt in that academics are held at a high standard. Unlike most Pitt classes I’ve taken most of our lectures were from guest lecturers. This added to the education we received abroad because it gave everyone a more real perspective on the economics and political climate of the countries we were in. It was beneficial listening to citizens of these countries speak to us. In such an academic environment its important to be a good listener. We learned that these countries operate in different ways by listening to what our speakers had to say. Having questions and engaging conversation fosters a learning environment that thrives.
