It’s all about balance!

Ahoy! Checking in from Prague, and have been here for two weeks now! My internship has been cool so far and I have been settling in and getting used to the Czech workplace. A big part of the key to being successful in my workplace is time management which is super important when it comes to being successful in the workplace, school, any other part of life. Being so busy my whole life I have always struggled with time management, however here I have no issue at all. At the start of my internship, I made it a priority to clearly understand my role and responsibilities. This included familiarizing myself with ongoing projects, understanding the expectations of my supervisors, and identifying key deadlines. Knowing what is expected of me is crucial in setting my priorities which helps lead me to be most successful.

So far I haven’t really received many tasks. They give me reading to understand the Czech market and economy but I am supposed to be getting more involved in the project next week and my boss said he wanted me to have a clear understanding to get me working on the projects. My taks have just been reading so far so it has not been too stressful and I haven’t struggled with managing my time but I have been struggling with what to do with my time. Every morning, I spend the first 15 minutes of my day planning. I list out all the tasks I need to complete, and set clear, achievable objectives for the day. This helps me stay organized and ensures I am focused on what needs to be accomplished.

Right now my tasks are really just studying the projects we are working on and the economy. I make sure to thoroughly read everything, come up with questions, and take notes on everything to understand it better. I also make sure to google unfamiliar words or google translate the parts that are in czech. So that is always the first thing I do, then I make sure to give myself a time to eat and after my task for the day if I don’t have anything else to do I make productive use of time such as updating my resume or doing further research to get me prepared to help on the upcoming projects. When the rest of the office is busy and does not have time to give me more tasks or are in a meeting when I need more tasks, staying productive and making the most out of my time is key.

However, not being too busy with tasks yet these upcoming weeks when I am I have a solid plan to adhere to deadlines and accomplish my tasks. First is to plan out the tasks within the deadline so I am not feeling overwhelmed one day and push things to the last minute. In preparation for busier weeks, I’ve started incorporating time blocking into my daily routine. In preparation for busier weeks, I’ve started incorporating time blocking into my daily routine. This method involves allocating specific time slots for different activities throughout the day. For example, I dedicate mornings to intensive tasks requiring deep concentration, such as market research or strategic planning. In the afternoons, I reserve time for meetings, collaborative work, and administrative tasks. By structuring my day in this way, I optimize productivity and ensure that all aspects of my internship responsibilities are effectively addressed.

Moreover, proactive communication with my supervisor and team members plays a crucial role in managing workload expectations and prioritizing tasks effectively. Regular check-ins will allow me to align my activities with team goals and adjust priorities based on evolving project needs. This collaborative approach not only enhances workflow efficiency but also fosters a supportive and productive work environment where everyone is informed and aligned towards achieving common objectives.

As I anticipate more challenging tasks in the coming weeks, I am also focusing on enhancing my professional skills and knowledge. This includes proactive learning through industry publications, online courses, and networking with experienced professionals in the field. By staying informed about industry trends and best practices, I am better equipped to contribute meaningfully to project discussions and decision-making processes within the team. Staying organized and managing my time is important to be a successful intern and my plan to keep me on track will allow me to thrive in the internship and time management.
