Back home

My last few days in Dublin were a good time. The last week of my internship was good. They didn’t really have much more for me to do during my last week. I had already gotten through pretty much all the tasks that they had wanted me to do during my time there. On the last day of the internship, my coworkers got me and the other intern a cake to celebrate our last day. They also got us a bunch of Irish snacks and candy for us to try which was fun. They threw us a mini party during our lunch hour. They also got us each a gift bag which was really nice of them. After that I just wrapped up the day, said my goodbyes and that was that.

My last week in Dublin was spent visiting all my favorite places from my time there. Went to St. Stephens green one more time which was nice. I walked around in the city center, did some last minute shopping. Walked along the river for the last time. I also went and got a t-shirt from my favorite bar there, a place called Ryan’s. For the last couple nights me and my friends all went out to our favorite places, to do a little tour down memory lane. It was fun going to everything for one last time, but it was also kind of sad. Crazy that just like that it was over and we were heading home. Two months done just like that. I’m glad to be home now, but there are parts of it that I miss while writing this.

I think I’ve grown a lot as a person. I think that by doing this internship I’ve become more responsible. Working in a professional setting definitely forces you to be more responsible. Making sure you wake up in time so that you can make breakfast, leave enough time to get to the bus stop and to have enough time for the commute. The work they gave me has also made me more responsible. My supervisor didn’t sit with me all day and watch me do the work. It was up to me to get my work done, and to get it done well. Not to mention getting it done in a timely manner, and then asking for more work to do to make sure that I’m not wasting any time. I really think that aspect will help me a lot when I am back at Pitt. I’ve always been a bit of a procrastinator. I quite frequently will put something off till the last minute, or close to it. I think that my internship did help me to break that habit at least a little bit. I hope that I can continue to do that during school, because that would certainly make it easier. Professionally speaking, this internship has done more for me than any other job I have had before has. For one, it showed what it will actually be like to work in a professional setting. It gave me a look into what an actual job would be like, which is nice because now I actually have a little bit of a sense on if I’d like working an office job. My internship also showed me that I am capable of doing a lot of different tasks. It also helped me further my interpersonal and communication skills by talking with my coworkers every day.

I am very happy that I chose to do this internship program. I feel like I really did get the chance to learn a lot and I think that I really did get some good exposure. I’m also happy that now that I have completed my internship, I can put it on my resume. I hope that this internship can help me to get my next one, to be able to show potential employers that I have a little bit of experience. I know it will at least make a good talking point during an interview. This experience is one of the best things that I have gotten the chance to be a part of. Although I am happy being home, I’ll always miss Dublin a little. Also, I have made new friends that I will hopefully get to see back at school. I’ve made memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. I always wanted to study abroad, and I am very glad that I had this opportunity to do that.
