A Semester in London

Hello everyone! My name is Caroline Collier. I am a junior, majoring in marketing and supply chain management. In the future, I hope to have a career in marketing where I can be creative and help clients’ ideas come to life. At Pitt, I am a member of the American Marketing Association, where I am on the Key Creation committee. In key creations, I get to strengthen my consulting and website design skills. I also have a student job working for the Pitt Business Alumni Relations office, where I get to learn more about what goes into funding and relationships of the business school. Outside of business-related things, I am also a part of the Pitt Ballet Club and Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

For a little bit more about me, I am from Columbus, Ohio, and I live with my parents and my older brother. I really like to dance, travel, take spin classes, watch movies, and go out with friends. Some of my favorite movies include: Age of Adeline, Crazy Rich Asians, The Holiday, and so many more. I really love to travel with my family in the summer. Some of my favorite places to vacation are Jaco, Costa Rica, and Hessel, Michigan. After my freshman year, I attended the Plus 3: The Netherlands, and last summer I did the GBI: Florence 6-week program, so I am pretty well-versed in all things study abroad.

I am a part of the GBI London program where I just participate in classes and an Internship. I am taking global supply chains, advertising & marketing, and a writing course while I am here. My internship is with Platform Creative which is a fashion PR firm and I have been loving every moment. So far, I really enjoy the class structure and professors in the program. I chose this program really because of how many great reviews it got from my peers with how much they learned about themselves and the new country they immersed themselves into. I have spent a good amount of time abroad in my life, so I feel very comfortable with my abilities to be successful this semester. I am also really looking forward to meeting students from other colleges and the diverse group of people in London. Being abroad in a program that has students from all over will allow me to make new friendships that I wouldn’t have been able to make and see what it is like at other schools. I really hope to grow as a person here and learn more about what’s like living abroad long-term. I am excited to see how attending classes and learning content related to my major in a different country helps my understanding.

I am living in a very beautiful neighborhood that is full of many shops, restaurants, and families. My flat has 5 other girls in it and we are from a variety of universities which has been cool to see a different perspective. It has been so cool to live amongst the locals and see how their lives differ from mine at home. People are very active outside here which shocked me because the weather isn’t the greatest. I have also found people to be very friendly and eager to help in any way they can. I feel that I am almost fully adapted to my life here in London and I feel so lucky to be in such a beautiful and culturally rich city for the next few months.
