Hello! My name is Grace Kim, and I am a junior studying Finance and Business Information Systems through Pitt Business’s Global Business Institute at CEA CAPA London. At Pitt, I am involved in LEAP, LEADS, and WIB, while also holding a research position at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences where I am a data collector and curator. In London, I am enrolled in the study and internship program, gaining data and project management experience at Rays of Sunshine. Outside of school and work, I love to travel with my friends and try out new restaurants.
I chose to study in London because living in a big city has always been a dream of mine. With activities to do every minute of the day, I instantly knew I had to study here. Additionally, I wanted to be in a city where traveling to other parts of Europe would be quick and affordable.
My flat is in Maida Vale, a gorgeous and quiet family neighborhood. I love taking walks around the area and people-watching. With six of us sharing the flat, there’s never a dull moment! Conveniently, there are plenty of restaurants and pubs within a five-minute walk where my friends and I like to relax after a long day of work or classes.
CEA CAPA London is in Kensington, a beautiful, fast-paced neighborhood only 2 tube rides from my flat. Kensington has many things to see and do. The Kensington Palace is a 25-minute walk away and High Street Kensington station, a big shopping street, is 15 minutes away. Pitt has a great campus in the center of Pittsburgh, however, going to school in London is more than what I could have dreamed of. The only downside is that the classes at CEA CAPA are 3 hours and 15 minutes long since we have them once a week. Other than that, many pros outweigh the bad. For example, if I have a long break between classes, I love to stop by the shopping area.
Living in a new country is easier than I imagined. After living here for almost 2 weeks now, I’ve realized London is very similar to America. With not many culture shocks, it was easy to get adjusted to. Also, it is exciting and interesting to hear British people call different items differently.
During my time here, I hope to see many new cultures and places all over Europe. Also, I aim to enhance my cultural competency and excel at my data and project management skills while interning.
