Hi, I’m Morgan Pizzi, a Junior at the University of Pittsburgh studying marketing and finance, with a minor in economics. I’m originally from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, around 40 mins outside Philadelphia. This semester, I have the opportunity to continue my education in Sydney, Australia, through the Global Business Institute program. This particular program stood out to me from the moment I saw it on the Global Experiences website due to the class options and the chance to intern in a foreign country. Most importantly, I’ve always wanted to visit Australia, and it was the furthest destination offered and what better way to experience a country so far than through a three-month long program. My main goals abroad are to explore the surrounding areas and truly immerse myself in the local culture. Professionally, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of marketing in a smaller, hands-on environment.
Unlike my studies at Pitt, where I’m at a large university, my host institution is CEA CAPA, a third-party study abroad organization is a lot smaller. One of the biggest differences is the class structure, the classes here are much longer than those at Pitt. I’ve only gotten to Syndey a week ago, so still managing to get used to learning longer.
I live in a quiet, residential neighborhood in Sydney, which is quite walkable. Living in a place that’s walkable makes all the difference in time abroad. Providing me easy access to local places by foot is something I love so far. I’m staying in an aparthotel, a hybrid of hotel and apartment-style living. There are four of us in the apartment, each sharing a room. The transition to living here has been pretty smooth considering I live in a small apartment back in Pittsburgh. I’ve adjusted well to the new living situation and am excited to explore the local area and make the most of my time here.
I’m really looking forward to the adventures ahead, both academically and personally, as I continue to learn and grow in this amazing city!
