Hello from Prague!

Hi! My name is Sydney Williams, and I am an incoming senior studying finance and accounting. I am from Ardmore, Pennsylvania which is about 20 minutes east of Philadelphia. A lot of my family like my dad and uncles went to the University of Pittsburgh, so it was an easy choice for me. I have grown to love Pittsburgh as much as they have. At Pitt, I am involved in the magazine, blog club called Studio 412 where I do their social media marketing. On top of that this past year I was the Vice President of Finance for the Fashion Business Association at Pitt.

As basic as it sounds, in my spare time, I love to go on runs and read. What has comforted me on my travels from the United States to Czechia is ‘Beautiful World Where Are You?’ by Sally Rooney. To get out of my head and let go of my stresses from school, I love to go on a run. Currently, as everyone else is, I am training for a half-marathon. On the weekends, I love to make dinner with my roommates and play cards on the kitchen counter, where we review our long week.

Last summer, I interned at Dakota in Philadelphia, where I worked as an investment sales intern. I am excited to apply those skills to my internship in Prague this summer through the International Internship Program. I chose this program because it is a great way to get hands-on experience professionally and allows me to immerse myself in different cultures. I am drawn to Prague by the city’s rich history and architecture. Prague provides great public transportation, people, cafes, and more. I have never been to Europe before and I am looking forward to traveling to local cities like Vienna, Austria Budapest, Hungary and Munich, Germany! I look forward to have many culture shocks professionally and socially.

The International Internship Program and EUSA have connected me with the company Acredos, which is an accounting and finance firm where I will be working as a tax intern. As a tax intern I will be helping manage and review the financial statements of American companies. I will also be attending meetings and writing notes for my supervisor. I am beyond thrilled!
