Sydney summer internship.

Hey gang, its been 3 weeks since I’ve landed in Sydney and i have a lot of fun experiences to share with you. I am finally am feeling more settled in to my living space and schedule of going to class and work during the week with fun excursions on the weekends.

I am currently staying at the Meriton Suites in Zetland in a 4 person hotel room. The room is pretty nice with a good sized living room and kitchen but the bedrooms are pretty small with less then a foot of space between the two beds. Me and my roommates have been frequently enjoying the hot tub and sauna at the base of our building along with the endless supply of towels i keep stealing for beach trips. One of my favorite things about where we are is the east village right across the road, a small mall with different food places and a Cole’s for groceries. My dinner has ping ponged between the Mad Mex in the east village and the small sushi store that Ive gamified the time I go to when they give out 2 rolls for 15$ deals while still having the rolls I like. I’ve been glad that the closeness of food is similar to how it was at Pitt and happily surprised by the amount of that food being Asian shops. I also feel i got lucky with my roommates as two of them also go to Pitt and all of them are laid back dudes like myself.

something I’m also fond of the fact that I have at least one of my roommates in both of my classes, something rare for me at Pitt. the classes at the CEA CAPPA center seem very similar to my classes at Pitt just with a shorter time frame. the classes I’m taking are sports marketing and the required internship class. the sports marketing class has been fun with field trips to the Sydney Cricket Grounds and opportunities to go to AFL games. the classwork itself hasn’t been hard with only a few solo and group projects as assignments and the teacher is a very nice and accommodating bald man which is nice. for the internship class Its been sporadic with different teachers and combined classes every time. The class work for the internship class is very similar to some of the intro business classes Ive taken at Pitt where we go over resumes and do mock interviews and such. One thing i do love about the school situation is where it is. Only a one stop train ride away the CEA CAPPA center is in a busy part if the city called Haymarket. Right across from the CEA CAPPA center is the haymarket, a large underground array of shops and food stalls that is fun to browse and explore after class. Haymarket also has plenty of restaurants with its closeness to china town and has well known fast food like taco bell and maccas riddled around.

for my internship I’m working with The Scuba Gym Australia which has been a great experience. I do marketing office work for them 4 days a week in a CPA building near the harbor which has been fun to explore during lunch break. Ive also got the opportunity to actually go and help with some of the scuba therapy sessions where i got to learn about scuba diving and how it helps their patients.

Overall Ive been very happy with my class and internship experiences and cant wait to see them through. These weeks in Australia have been flying by so i hope to cherish each and every one of them.
