The Rising Main steps

This weekend we visited multiple well-known Pittsburgh attractions including Fineview and the Nationality rooms in the Cathedral of Learning.  Pittsburgh, specifically the University of Pitt, uses its diversity as a great strength of its community. Taking the tour of the cathedral and seeing all the different nationality rooms was a really rich experience. The Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh were created to celebrate the cultural heritage of the diverse ethnic communities that helped shape the city of Pittsburgh. My personal favorite rooms were the Greek room and the German room because of the beautiful architecture and decoration within those rooms.

This weekend we also visited Fineview, one of Pittsburgh’s most scenic hilltop neighborhoods, offers a thrilling urban hiking experience thanks to its iconic city steps. After waking up the city steps, we also took a tour of the neighborhood itself and learned a bit about the history. Originally, no one wanted to move there because of the inconvenient location relative to the city and the smog and terrain nearby. However, after overpopulation and renovation, more people started moving to the scenic outlook over the city. The Rising Main steps, among the steepest in the city, were built to connect isolated hilltop neighborhoods to the urban core. Their endurance reflects Pittsburgh’s ability to adapt its geography into opportunity.
