This semester has been one of the most academically challenging and rewarding experiences I’ve had so far. I am currently taking International Finance, International Marketing, Corporate Finance, Strategic Brand Management, and Art and Gender in Contemporary Spain. Although I am not completing an internship right now, my course load feels very connected to the real business world, especially in terms of global markets and strategy.
International Finance and Corporate Finance are definitely the most technical courses I’m taking. They require strong analytical skills and a lot of focus. I spend a good amount of time working through financial statements, valuation models, and understanding exchange rates and risk. These classes have shown me how much attention to detail matters. One small mistake in a calculation can completely change the outcome. At the same time, it’s not just about numbers. We constantly talk about how global events, politics, and economic trends influence financial decisions. I’ve realized that being successful in this field means being both analytical and aware of what is happening in the world.
International Marketing and Strategic Brand Management feel more creative but are just as demanding in a different way. These classes focus on consumer behavior, branding, and long term strategy. We often discuss case studies and analyze why certain brands succeed in some countries but struggle in others. Cultural awareness is extremely important, especially in international marketing. What appeals to consumers in one region may not resonate the same way somewhere else. Communication skills, creativity, and the ability to think strategically are key strengths in these courses.
Art and Gender in Contemporary Spain has been a completely different but valuable experience. It pushes me to think critically about identity, representation, and social issues through art. The class is more discussion based, which has helped me grow more confident in sharing my ideas. It has also strengthened my writing and analytical skills. I appreciate how this course balances out my finance classes by adding a cultural and human perspective to my semester.
The academic culture across my classes is both rigorous and collaborative. Professors expect us to come prepared and actively participate. Group projects are common, which mirrors how teamwork functions in professional environments. I’ve noticed that many students are very motivated and focused on their future careers. There are constant conversations about internships, networking, and global opportunities. Time management has been one of the most important skills for me this semester because balancing quantitative assignments with reading and writing intensive courses requires planning and discipline.
Overall, this semester is helping me build both technical and interpersonal skills. I am gaining financial knowledge, improving my strategic thinking, and becoming more culturally aware. Even without an internship, I feel like I am developing skills that will prepare me for a career in international business or finance.
