One meaningful moment during my time abroad happened while I was exploring Florence and beginning to feel more comfortable navigating the city on my own. One afternoon, after finishing classes, I decided to walk around the city instead of immediately heading home. I wandered through some smaller streets, eventually finding a quiet area with a view of the historic buildings and the Arno River. Sitting there and looking around at the architecture and everyday life around me made me realize how much my experience abroad had already changed me.
At the beginning of the program, everything felt unfamiliar. The language, the pace of life, and even simple things like transportation or ordering food sometimes felt intimidating. However, in that moment I realized how much more confident and comfortable I had become living in a different country. I was navigating the city, communicating with people, and adapting to a new culture in ways that would have felt overwhelming when I first arrived.
This experience was impactful because it made me recognize how much personal growth can happen when you step outside of your comfort zone. Living abroad has pushed me to become more independent, patient, and open-minded. It has also helped me appreciate different cultures and perspectives in a deeper way.
Looking back on that moment, I realized that studying abroad is not just about traveling or seeing famous landmarks. It is about the small experiences that help you grow and learn more about yourself. That afternoon reminded me that I am capable of adapting to new environments and embracing challenges, which is something I will carry with me long after this program ends.
