Hi everyone! My name is Maggie Meglio, and I am from Doylestown, PA. I’ve just completed my sophomore year at Pitt, where I’m studying Marketing and pursuing certificates in Digital Media and Leadership & Ethics. I’m thrilled to be spending six weeks in Sydney, Australia for the Global Business Institute Program this summer, and getting to share my journey with you!

Being at Pitt Business has really pushed me to develop upon my professional goals and discover new opportunities to take part in. Professionally, my passion lies in the Music and Entertainment Industry, with a focus on live touring and festivals, artist management, and fan engagement. On campus, I’m grateful to be involved in so many great organizations like Pitt Program Council, Phi Chi Theta, Music and Entertainment Business Association, and the DiabetesLink. I’ve also taken part in a lot of Pitt Business’s Co-Cirricular Programs which have helped me narrow down my professional passions within Music and Entertainment as well as Marketing. Additionally, I work as a BUS0010 Teaching Assistant which has really rounded out my Pitt experience with getting to show first-years how to get involved and make the most of their educational and professional experiences.
Beyond my academic and professional life, I’m a passionate individual with a love for concerts, movies, music, hiking, and traveling. As a huge traveler and someone who’s always been drawn to global experiences, I knew I wanted to study abroad when I first started at Pitt. I’ve been very fortunate to explore not only most of the US, but also different parts of Canada and Europe. Last summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to study in Ecuador with the Plus3 Program, which only widened my love of global experience and learning. I knew after those 2 weeks that I needed to take part in a longer program!
My hope is the Global Business Institute in Sydney will broaden my knowledge of global businesses, challenge me academically, and push me out of my comfort zone. I believe that studying abroad and completing an internship here will not only enhance my professional skills but also help me develop a more nuanced perspective on the world. By immersing myself in Sydney’s vibrant culture, I expect to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of global business and to develop upon essential skills like adaptability, leadership, and determination with the many experiences planned for our trip. Some goals I’m setting for myself in order to maximize my experience are as follow:
- Push myself out of my comfort zone within my internship: I always tell my students to push themselves within their professional opportunities and make the most of their moment, and I think I’m ready to take on my own advice. It’s such an impressive opportunity to take part in a global internship, and I want to get my full of all areas of my agency in order to learn more about the field of Marketing and how a full-service agency collaborates among departments.
- Make the most of my Analyzing and Exploring the Global City Course: During my program, I am fulfilling one of my A+S credits with this class and could not be more excited to take part in it. Not only am I looking forward to learning more about Sydney, but I hope the course will expand my perspective of globalization and how cities are comprised of their society, history, and culture.
- Maintain my relationships with fellow classmates and Sydney-siders: Our GBI program is run through CEA CAPA, so I have the pleasure of staying with fellow Pitt students, as well as students from Michigan State, Minnesota, TCU, Kentucky, and more! We are also staying on a college campus, UNSW, so we get to live in the same community as Sydney students as well! I hope to learn from their unique perspectives and keep connected with them through our program and beyond!
Today hits my one week mark of being in Australia, and I can already tell I’m going to fall in love with Sydney over these next few weeks. I look forward to filling you all in on my journey and experience down under!
