I’m Gonna Soak up the Sun

In Sydney, CEA CAPA is located at the University of Technology Sydney which is located in Haymarket or the China town of Sydney. Our dorms are situated at the University of New South Whales in Randwick. This is about a twenty-to-thirty-minute light rail ride away from our classes. I have been adapting to my living situation well, I have had the chance to get to know my four roommates, one of them being a student who is working and is from Australia. We have gone on a couple of trips and I believe that I am adapting well to my living situation. There are a few differences between both UTS and UNSW and Pitt. The parts of UTS that we use are just one large brick building in the middle of China Town. There are a lot of shops and culture around that isn’t present in Pittsburgh near Pitt. UNSW’s Village is a large campus in the middle of suburbs. Right across the street is a horse racing track and the campus has a lot of green space that all looks different from each other. Another thing that is different is the amount that reusable bags and cups are encouraged everywhere. What is similar are the campuses being a part of the actual city, UNSW has a gym on campus that is open to the community as well, the only difference is that students and community members must pay to use the gym.

The image above is one I took during a class trip around the area. One class I am taking is exploring Sydney as a Global City and we have been able to go on many field trips already during our time. My internship is with Mobile Eye Clinic which is a small business that works to provide eye care to aged care facilities around Australia, I work as an Admin Assistant Intern with them. Some of the key skills and strengths I need to be successful in my internship are good communication skills as I am making calls and sending emails. I also have to have good problem-solving skills because sometimes I can’t get a good answer to my questions and have to figure it out myself.
