Keeping Busy and Midsommar Celebrations

on

This past week has included a wide range of experiences. I started off by working on my first task from my company which was their weekly newsletter. This was the first time I had worked on something like this and was a little nervous going into the assignment since I don’t have much experience with digital design outside of presentations. The intern who previously worked on this gave me guidance throughout the process which as helpful but ultimately my supervisor wanted me to put my own spin on the newsletter.

I was so honored with the amount of trust they had in me to design and create this media that would be sent out to all their customers, but it helped me gain more confidence when it came to working on things for the company.

I would say these types of tasks are where I feel the most uncertainty in my position. My supervisors create an environment that allows us interns to have creative expression and use that to build the companies brand, which is very exciting, but it can also be nerve wracking. I love that they want us to do our own thing and be independent in our work while also collaborating because the balance of these two factors is important in the workplace. My nervousness comes in because this is my first time having this much responsibility and trust in a professional position and I want to make sure I am meeting expectations.

I do feel this position and environment will help me become more confident when it comes to working on these assignments and to gain more certainty in my performance. Another thing is, that since I’m only going into the third week of the internship I am still learning a lot about dynamics and tasks that I am working on so as I progress I think my workflow will become more solidified and I will be able to see where and how I can show up from day to day since it generally changes depending on the needs of the day.

The change in tasks throughout the week is something I enjoy about this company because it keeps things fresh and helps me to find motivation will going through the week. My supervisor has been telling more about some responsibilities I will take on as the previous interns are being phased out and something that has helped a lot to remember these is writing things down. I brought a little notebook that I use to take notes and write to-do lists with. This way I know what needs to get done or what I could be working on if I have down time.

Overall, I’ve loved my work environment because my supervisors leave a lot of room for individual expression and their trust in my performance has helped to make the experience less stressful. I am excited to continue my work with them and excited to see where it takes me.

Outside of work, this week was Midsommar!!. This is a huge holiday for all of Sweden and is celebrated by dancing, being outside, eating good food, and being around loved ones. This was my first time celebrating this holiday and it was cool to partake in their traditions like dancing around the maypole and making flower crowns. I also ate some good food and got to try princess cake for the first time. I spent the weekend with some friends, watching some world cups games and swimming at a beach nearby. There is always so much to explore in this city, and I am excited to continue doing so for the next couple of weeks.
