Visiting the Cathedral and the Frederick Honors College floor was how we started our day today. We met Dave Hornyak, the Assistant Dean of the Honors College, and he gave us a rundown of the Honors College program and the benefits it provides. I am blessed to have been accepted into the school during the initial application cycle. They offer many generous scholarships that fit my interests, such as funding to study abroad. Beyond these academic opportunities, the key point of our tour was the significance of connections. Through the Honors College, connections can propel one’s career, helping them land the jobs and careers they want. I plan on utilizing the Honors College to create as many connections as I can to learn more about my possible future.

After we toured the Honors College, we had lunch with Professor Bryan Schultz, the Director of Global Experiences. He had an abundance of information to give us and introduced more programs. The one that intrigued me the most was the Plus3 program that Pitt has to offer. It is two weeks abroad, similar to the Haller Global Fellowship. What really caught my attention is how the program functions as a first-hand look at global supply chains, allowing students to tour local facilities and talk directly with industry executives. He also gave us deeper insight into service and experiential learning and consulting work.

There is also another specific program he introduced that caught my attention: the ability to do volunteer and consulting work for a few days, either abroad or across the country. The ability to make a positive change in a specific area by applying business concepts to real-world challenges is why I chose this path. My first few days here have already shown me how vast the opportunities are, and I can’t wait to see where these connections and experiences take me.
