Starting out in Sydney

Welcome back to my blog! I arrived in Sydney last Wednesday, and I already feel like I don’t have enough time to see everything. The city is beautiful – I feel like I’m still in the states sometimes, but at the same time Australia has such a unique environment.

Seeing everything is hard enough, but jet-lag is making things a bit more complicated! Although I’m waking up early, I really struggle to stay up past 9 some nights as my body adjusts. The time difference, along with the fact that I’ve been walking more than ever to sightsee (I’ve reached my Fitbit goal every day!), has really worn me out. I’m hoping to get over the slump this week though!

Other than that, I cannot complain at all. The apartment is beautiful and so convenient (it’s only a 5 minute walk to classes), plus I get to meet so many new people since I live with seven other girls. About half of us are from Pitt while the other half hail from various universities in America, so it’s a nice blend of individuals to learn and live with.

Over the past week, I was fortunate to see so many new things. On Friday alone, I went on a scavenger hunt that took us across Darling Harbour, Chinatown, Ultimo, and Circular Quay. The scavenger hunt ended with a lunch cruise that overlooked the Opera House, which is where the featured photos were taken. I also went on a 3 mile coastal walk across from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach, visited the Royal Botanic Garden, and spent a day in the Australian Museum (the oldest museum in Australia). My goal is to see or try something new everyday.

Since classes begin tomorrow for me, I’m also taking some time right now to prepare for everything and read the textbook. I will update you soon on my first day of classes go. See you soon!

Cheers,
Jocelyn
