My name is Katherine Rowley! I am a rising junior at the University of Pittsburgh, I am majoring in Marketing and minoring in Chinese. I’m from Pittsburgh and Taichung, Taiwan. This is my first time traveling to Europe and traveling without family, I am very excited!
I spent a year at the Community College of Allegheny County to understand what I want to do in the future, which brought me to Pitt to pursue a career in Marketing. Last spring and summer I interned at Bank of America, Merrill Lynch as a Marketing Intern. This was a great experience where I was able to learn a lot about the financial industry.
Outside of my studies I am a member of the executive board for the Asian Students Alliance at Pitt, where I am one of the Public Relations chairs. This position has allowed me to realized my interest in Public Relations and has allowed me to expand my experience in Marketing with an organization I am passionate about. I also play on the Pitt Woman’s Ultimate team at Pitt that practices and competes regularly. Playing ultimate and being involved in the Asian Students Alliance in college has allowed me to make me a balanced and organized person.
This summer I am partaking in the Global Business Institute London Program. I chose this program because it was the perfect length of time and it is during the summer when I am available. Because I do not have an internship abroad, I do not have many professional goals. My one professional goal is to go to at least one company tour where I can see what working internationally looks like. Academically I would like to learn more about International Marketing in a foreign setting, I feel that it would be a great experience. I also am curious to learn more about the city of London through my Urban Studies class. I do not have enough time in my class schedule to take an Urban Studies class so taking it over the summer is ideal. I also want to experience what it is like to be a student in London because I would like to attend graduate school aboard in Europe. Personally, I want to learn how to travel by myself and push to immerse myself in the culture. As mentioned before I have never traveled by myself anywhere so this would help me take the step to be more independent. Experiencing a whole new culture is also something that is super important to me as well.
I am really looking forward to studying abroad in London!
